I have a 95 Isuzu rodeo v6. While driving the engine will run rough and stall. Black smoke will come out of the tailpipe and there is a gas smell. The check engine light will come on and the drive gets better until it goes off. No error codes are recorded. Could the computer be failing or is there something else like a loose ground that could be causing this problem. I'm also having problems locating the PCV there is a connection on the left valve cover but no removable valve just a metal post that the existing hose is connected to.

I had a similar problem with my '95 passport. loss of power, terrible gas milage and black smoke. Once I figured it out, it was as simple as replacing the O2 sensor. It took the dealer to diagnose it though. My regular mechanic was stumped. Should be easy enough to replace. Use the OME part though. I tried a universal sensor and it didn't work.

Good Luck

a cheap temporary fix and diagnostic is to simply unplug the o2 sensor. It will run just fine and dandy with it unpluged-that is if the sensor is the problem (sounds like it is although should have a few codes). Unplug it and see if it solves the problem. If it seems to run fine unpluged get a new one, if not look else where. Also if it has been bad for some time it causes excessive fuel being dumped into the cat that can cause it to melt and clog itself up real nice inside. So if it runs alot better with the sensor unpluged get a new one but if it feels to still not have its proper power after replacing it look to the cat for second problem

good to hear you got the problem fixed. As far the PCV valve goes, i know on the 4bangers i have worked on theres just a baffle on the valve cover, no actual valve.

black smoke is almost a give away on a bad O2 sensor. They sometimes wont throw a ECL either. You are lucky, the 96 Rodeo has 4 O2s
