4l30e year interchangeability

Does anyone on here know if the older year transmissions will work on earlier year models? I have a 97 rodeo and the 4l30e only has 1st and reverse now. I’m wondering if I can take a trans from a 98 or 2000 and slap it in there. I’ve seen the Mua swap is the best option but I can’t find one anywhere near my state. I appreciate the help.

90-99 4L30e transmissions have a 5 Pin overdrive case electrical connector and a 4 Pin main case electrical connector. 00-and newer 4L30e transmissions have a 4 Pin overdrive case electrical connector and a 7 Pin (6 used) main case electrical connector. A 2WD 4L30e does not interchange with a 4WD because the tail shafts are different. You can rewire the connectors and use a 00-02 Rodeo/Passport 4L30e but not a 00 and newer Trooper/Axiom 4L30e.

not a 00 and newer Trooper/Axiom 4L30e.
Is this due to the 00+ Troopers/Axioms using the TOD transfercase?

I also wonder if the Vehicross uses the same 4L30 from the Trooper Axiom, because iirc they also have the TOD transfercase?
The 98-99 Troopers had TOD available as well. All the VX would have come with a 4L30E and TOD

The reason you cannot use a 00-02 Trooper or 02 Axiom 4L30e is because these transmissions use a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) control signal and all the others use an On/Off type control (+12Vdc or 0Vdc) The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in 00-02 Trooper or 02 Axiom 4L30e generates the PWM control signal, your PCM does not and you can't replace your PCM with one from a 00-02 Trooper or 02 Axiom.
