Be aware that the only 4L30e transmission you can use in your truck must come from a 2000-2002 Trooper or a 4WD 2002 Axiom. The Trooper transmission tag # is 96018507 and the Axiom 4WD transmission ID TAG # is 96023779.

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controls the engine and 4L30e transmission. The PCM used in a 98-99 Trooper is not the same as the PCM used in a 00-02 Trooper. The 98-99 Trooper uses an On/Off type Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) and the 00-02 Trooper and 02 Axiom use a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) type TCC. The PCM in a 98-99 Trooper cannot properly control a PWM type TCC.

The PCM in a 98-99 has three connectors and is located above the center console, the 00-02 PCM has two connectors and is mounted to the engine compartment RH inner fender. The 98-99 4L30e has a 5 pin Overdrive section connector and a 4 pin main case connector. The 00-02 has a 4 pin Overdrive section connector and a 7 pin main case connector.

OK SO LET ME ASK U THIS HE PUT A REBUILD KIT IN IT, HE IS A VERY GOOD MECHANIC BUT THIS WAS HIS FIRST AUTOMATIC OF THIS KIND. IS THERE LITTLE TRICK OR ISSUES, THAT ONLY A MASTER WOULD BE AWARE OF? AFTER HE REBUILT AND PUT IT IN IT DOES'NT MOVE UNLESS REVED REALLY HIGH

If the truck WILL move in Reverse but WILL NOT move forward in L (Manual 1st gear) the reaction drum brake band is not applied or is slipping.

I was trying to think of any thing it could be without pulling the trans..#1 fluid / fluid flow..# 2 exterior band adj. ( this setting has book settings " turns " and or also. Good old boy " feel " setting / fine tune.

You need to drain pan, drop the pan and band adjustment is inside pan area next to valve body see the YouTube 4l30 videos.
