Got a used 2001 limited trooper, and am not happy with the gas mileage. Has anyone with the same motor gotten better gas mileage, and how??? I put 45 lbs in the rear tires, and 40 in the front, ran a bottle of injector cleaner thru it, checked the plugs, new air filter, but no changes. Could there be anything I can do besides park it to improve the fuel economy???

15-19mpg's is pretty typical and about the best you'll get with the 1998+ troopers, or any similar truck for that matter. If you have the stock sized tires on your truck you are running the tire pressure WAY TOO HIGH :shock: !! for safety reasons, please use the pressures specified in the door jamb label. You run a serious risk of rupturing a tire & rolling this truck at those pressures, plus the tires will cup in no time. IIRC, it's around 29psig. G/luck

Thanks for the tip, I don't want to roll her over or cup the tires!! Thought maybe by making them hard as rocks I would help the mpg, but I am going to have to live with it!

if you are getting 18mpg you are doing VERY well.

I put in a K&N drop in air filter and got another 2mpg, but if your numbers are already that high i doubt it would do much better.

well, in that case, I'm not complaining any more, well not THAT much. I just thought when I looked at a Foreign relatively smaller sized engine, that I would get a much better fuel economy. Now I am looking for the first diesel Trooper in North America, anyone seen one...hehehehe. I'll guess I'll stop looking around for a magical solution to fuel economy.

i'm getting 12-13 mpg in my 3.5 liter trooper even with 40 psi in the 267/75 tires. I hope it will increase when i change my plugs, I currently have 93K miles.

If you are getting 18, you should be pleased.

Other things that may help are new o2 sensors, new pcv valve, and clean your EGR.

Typically between 13-20 MPG, daily driving.

Been known to get 24+ <when tuned right...

86 TII, 4 banger, 5spd, 4wd..(caurb'd bizzs!!) tuned semi well. Only 280k miles
