2004 rodeo - security system kills ignition after 2 seconds

odd starting issue on my 2004 Rodeo.

put my key in, turns over and starts fine 80% of the time. zoom zoom happy.

but recently after it starts and running for only 2 seconds, Then the ignition dies.

If you try to restart it, you have to remove the key, then wait ~30-60 seconds re-instert (you have to) then try to restart .

After sometimes doing this routine once or twice, it'll start and run fine.

Sometimes it takes 10-15 times.

Not fun facing the concept of having it strand me somewhere.

I'm GUESSING? it's in the security interlock system. My alarm horn doesn't sound.

it's an auto, so I don't have the clutch safety plunger switch. Putting car in neutral or wiggly auto shifter doesn't help.

doesn't matter if rodeo is hot or cold starts.

I'm puzzled. Any one experience this?

THANKS!
