OK,
My wifes rodeo the 2WD model with the 4cyl has the Worst suspension EVEAH, its like your riding a bucking bull! What is the best way of combating this problem? The thing came with Yokohama tires  that seem realy bouncy... do you think that a stiffer tire of some other brand may help? Would air shocks help? Any input would be nice.....but I dont think I want to change out the supension parts just yet..... of course when it was brought to the dealer they said the suspension was normal... I'm not kidding when I said It's like ridding a bull on crack! Even the slightest mar in the pavement will send this thing rockin'..........any  Ideas??......thanks

Keep on Troopin'

Howdy Folks. Hey Troopy. It sounds to me like you are looking for a softer ride? If that is the case the best bang for your buck will be spent in the shock department. As a standard, I like Rancho shocks. I would also do some investigating into the general condition of the suspension system. Road stabilization generally comes from anti-sway bars. Make sure your sway bars are in good shape (not bent or cracked) and that they have good rubber on the ends (and good links). Beyond that, I would make sure your torsion bars haven't been overtightened. Also check control arm bushings and ball joints. If you have any grease fittings down there, it's a good idea to hit those too for good measure.

Air shocks probably wont give you better performance. I generally only install these on vehicles with heavy campers or people who do occasional hauling. I do recommend air bags over air shocks however, as air shocks can break the shock mounts on occasion. Still, I think your first thought is correct, try some new shocks.

Yep. I'm with wrench here. Bushes can be a simple problem to rough suspension. Definately check these all the way round. Sometimes it's worth replacing them with polyeurathane(sp?). They are more expensive but will last longer than the car as a rule. Also, shocks. Try something softer OR you could try gas adjustable. Spax are good for this ad they ideed have 13 settigs. Hope I've been a little help.
Best of luck.

What I found with my 2002 is the factory shocks were WAY too soft. The front suspension would easily bang against it's bump stops on light to medium bumps. The truck would hop & wander all over the road on washboard surfaces and would nose-dive on hard stops. When I pulled the factory shocks, I couldn't beleive how cheap, flimsy and skinny they were. You could easily compress them by hand & the fronts had already started to weep some oil  . I changed them out at 15Kmi !!! Swapping out your shocks will make a world of difference. I put monroe sensa-tracs on mine. Zero being the softest & 10 being stiffest ride, I'd say the sensa-tracs give about a 6. If you want firmer, I'd go with rancho 9000's.
G/luck

Howdy guys. Joel touched on something I forgot. Yes, your suspension could be too soft. Try this test. Park on a level surface. Take a tape measure and measure off a fixed point (on the frame) on each corner. Then give the vehicle a good bounce on each corner and take your measurements again. Also try lifting up on each corner and taking your measurements. If your vehicle doesn't return on the above tests you have something worn out. A good physical inspection of the shocks, like Joel suggested is also a great idea. Or just replace the shocks, afterall, the proof is in the pudding.
