Can anyone provide a diagram of where the air pump is on a 2.3L '92 Amigo?
If someone tells me it doesn't have one I'll shut up!
If there is one...can it be eliminated?
I believe that it is part of the exhaust side of the motor.
I'm going to do a new plumbing layout and simplify it...what a rats nest!
I'm thinking about a magnaflow OEM replacement and a generic cat
with the pipes going straight(?) back on the drivers side?
Does this sound reasonable?
For FYI at the ca, since it is the hotest part of the system and will be
close to the floor I'm going to put an additional heat shield on top of the cat.
Any thoughts???

If it has one it should be on the driver's side, above the alternator. Several of the guys here have removed them with out any issues. Search the forums and you'll find pictures. Some have clipped and sealed the pipes, others have replaced the pipes with bolts to seal the head. There may be issues with the O2 sensor, if you have one. I think that is also covered in the pump removal threads.

An extra heat shield can't hurt.
