1998 Trooper Catalytic Converter Confusion

I'm kind of confused about the location of the catalytic converter(s) on my '98 Trooper. I see people saying that there are two converters--one on either side after the exhaust manifold and before the "Y"--however when I look under my Trooper I don't see anything resembling a catalytic converter before the "Y", and instead have what sure looks a catalytic converter immediately after the "Y". Is there some kind of tiny catalytic converter that fits inside the exhaust pipe without making it any bigger? Also, I do see four O2 sensors, with one on each side after the manifolds then two after the "Y", with one before and one after the (assumed) catalytic converter.

Mine essentially looks like the following diagram (taken from isuzupartscenter.com)

What has me really confused is their diagrams also show an image that looks more like what I have seen described with two catalytic converters before the "Y", pictured below

I'll try to get underneath mine today to take a couple pictures to clarify what I'm seeing. Thanks in advance for any help in figuring this out!

Does your trooper have FED emissions or CA emissions?
Not sure. I assume there's a sticker somewhere that says, but I'm not sure where. Any pointers?
Nevermind, found it. It's FED. Does that make a significant difference?

Significant difference absolutely!
C.A.R.B. (California Air Resources Board) catalytic converters are 3 to 6x more expensive than FED catalytic converters. There is also a difference in O2 sensor circuit & programing and the wiring harness is different.

Your vehicle has a single catalytic converter located just behind the y collector.
Well that's great to know I'm not completely insane for not being able to find multiple catalytic converters

Is there any reason for there still being four O2 sensors?
I think the Autos have the two smaller converters before the Y, and the manuals have the single convertor after the Y. Is yours a manual?

Yeah it's a manual

Additional question: what's the point of the additional upstream O2 sensors? It seems a bit odd to have one after each manifold as well as one directly in front of the Cat. I'm wondering this mostly for my own curiosity as there's not much I can change about it.
