1998 Amigo Engine Swap

Hey everyone, I'm sure this has been asked before, but I haven't been able to find a full answer in the threads. So, I have a 98 Amigo 2.2l 4cyl that I am considering upgrading the engine on. I see this model also had the 6 cyl version and wanted to know if anyone has ever done this mod? From what I have read, the transmission will have to be replaced too but not sure how accurate that is. I don't really want to buy an entire new Amigo but never say never I guess. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Transmission has to be changed as well as the engine wiring harness, but certainly doable. I had a 99 with the 2.2. I ended up selling it, but many times wished I would have just kept it and did the engine and tranny swap. Think the rear on the 2.2 is a 4.77, but not sure on that, but do know the 2,2 has drum brakes on the rear. I have linings and bendix wheel cylinders if you want them.

The rear on the 2.2 should be a 4.77 with drums -- goofy axle... would make more sense to sell the 2.2 Amigo and buy a V6 4x4 Amigo with better axles, disc brakes, etc

I second that. You'd be geared a bit low for stock tires at 4.77 too. You'd probably want a complete donor vehicle to do this swap, and at that point you'd already have a V6 amigo
Getting a new one was something I was trying to avoid. Especially since they are hard to come by where I live. Was figuring that I might as well buy all the parts and just do the swap.

The unfortunate truth is it basically requires buying another Amigo to collect all the parts as they are so hard to find... so you might as well just end up with a better Amigo without doing all the work, assuming you are set on getting rid of the [objectively crappy] 2.2L 4 banger
