1991 v6 trooper automatic transmission

Recently bought V6 1991 trooper automatic transmission, starts everytime, but needs to be warmed up, once check engine light comes on it idles and runs perfectly. If I stop to do errands etc. start back up it will idle very poorly and die, unless I step on gas to idle engine. It acts almost like it’s flooded. Once you idle it by stepping on gas long enough it will eventually run good. Also only runs good once check engine light is on. Any suggestions as to what this could be?

Sounds like it might be leaking injectors.

Could be a few things that can cause this.
What is happening is the ECM is trying to figure out how to make the engine run normally. Once it gives up trying its injecting it's own signal value to make the engine run. When the ECM is forced to do this the check engine light comes on too. To my knowledge the ECM is programmed to do this with the MAF, O2 & ECT sensor. So your fault must be a associated with these three circuits. To narrow down your search step #1 is to read the fault code. This will point you into the correct troubleshooting direction.
Let me know what code you have and I will gide you from there.
