I recently acquired a 1988 trooper that is having some issues. It’s a 1988 trooper LS 2.6 manual. I found out it needs a new fuel pump and gas tank, as the current tank is corroding and dirtied the gas, which clogged the pump and made the vehicle inoperable. Is it better to find a used replacement tank or to try cleaning this one? What are your suggestions for ways to clean out and prime the tank, both for my current gas tank and a replacement, should I find one. Currently sourcing both replacement parts through car-parts, but if anyone has a solid source for replacement fuel pumps, I would love that information! All replies and advice are welcome! Thank you ISUZOO

I've been using a Walbro fuel pump on my for 4-5 years now without any issues.

I tried cleaning my gas tank and RedKote-ing it but it was a huge PITA. And what do you do with all the run off water? My dad used to dump stuff like that in the backyard but I'm afraid that's a bridge too far for me. I ended up pulling a gas tank from a junkyard, and it was in good condition so I didn't have to do anything to it.

If you live in an area with junkards, especially if they have a website that will alert you when Troopers come in, that might be your best bet.
