Hello all I have a 1986 Trooper without A/C and I need to replace the climate control since it won't switch off defrost. I can get most of the plastic piece off, but the part with the cigarette lighter won't come off. I'm kinda stuck and I can't seem to find out how to remove the lighter so that it's out of the way and I can install the new climate control. I would appreciate any help anyone might have. Thanks!.

It has been a few years, but I think that the lighter unscrews. It either has a back that unscrews or the insert in the front unscrews.

Just about all lighters in a vehicle that I have seen are a screw on type. From the backside there should be 2 wires going to it. The one in the center of the main body is the power wire & should pull off easily. The other which is the ground is usually a spade type terminal & connects to the outer shell. Once those are removed, just grab the outer shell & unscrew it. You may have to stick your finger/thumb in the lighter hole to prevent the inner lighter receptacle from turning also. Hope that makes sense.
