the almighty Fiero...hated by some..loved by many...mine is a '87 GT. 66,0000 original miles....recently did a upgrade, etc

total suspension replacement and upgrade....i.e. ball joints, control arms, bushings, new shocks, struts, rotors, added steel brake lines,
and sway bars, front and rear....four new bf goodrich T/A's.....

replace the shifter, with a shorter one...replaced all bushings, and pin, along with new shifter cables...

When I sold my 06 solstice, it funded my Fiero upgrades....and it was money well spent.....rides like a bat out of hell..

one of two american mass produced rear or mid engine cars...the other being Chevy's Corvair. (1960-1969)

Looks great. I've always liked that color scheme (pretty close to that of my '83 LS P'up). The body style reminds me of another mid-engine classic -- the 2nd generation Toyota MR2.

Jack
loved the MR 2.....but don't forgot the Fiat x1-9

Our neighbor when I was in high school had a little Fiat X19. He worked on it more than he drove it. Wiring issues.

That is the best looking Fiero I've seen. Agree with JoeIsuzu, perfect color.

And in 1986, I had a brief love interest in the Dodge Daytona

Jack
almost bought one new. Can't remember the year. Late 80's. It was cool because GM had let Chrysler have the rights to the IROC name that year and they were trying it out on the Daytona. It was a blue and silver Dodge Daytona Turbo IROC Z.... LOL, all those words were in there but not sure where the Z was..

I was about 24 and had a terrible driving record, had gotten booted by a couple of insurance companies. So the loan officer at my credit union wouldn't finance it for me. I was so pissed....

Saw a really nice GT with 3800 supercharger swap at a recent local car show. It was a beautiful car and the installation was very clean & sano. I bet that puppy really flies!

Getting ready to clean the '67 'Stang up for a car show at the airport today. My 85-yr-old Mom will be driving her 2017 Ruby Red Mustang to the show as well. Hot-Rod Grandma!

Enjoy the beautiful weather, it's improving here in the PNW too..........ed

Yeah, the 3800 super charged swap is very popular with GT owners....especially the '87 & '88 models....and it's an easy swap, replacing the original
2.8 V6 .....I've also seen small block corvette engines. and early 90's cadillac NORTH STAR engines put in as well....but to me, that would be overkill...too much sheer
horse power..lol....myself, I am considering the 3800....down the line....however, I'll have a leg up....as I've done a full front-rear suspension upgrade..the works...including adding front/rear sway bars.....

All in all, the Fieros were ahead of their time...and were basically not bad cars...and true, the first year,('84) 4 cylinders, were horrible...and prone to engine fires..
until GM recalled the 84's, and fixed the problem.....later models...especially the last year, 1988, were superb...with lotus flavored suspension, etc

At the car show yesterday, the weather was very pleasant and a good turnout. Some very nice cars, including a '32 custom with supercharged flathead V8. It was very LOUD and sounded great!

SWEEET!...Sounds like a lovely time.....As part of our annual Garden walk in Cooper-Young, which is in it's 4th year now, (may 18-19th)
we are also having a car show to highlight some of the cool vehicles in both CY, and midtown memphis....the car exhibit will be for one day.
sat may 18th.....I plan to show both my '90 Trooper, and my '87 Fiero GT......along with some of my neighbors rides...it should be fun !

Sounds like fun...........I bet you have HUGE turnouts back there!
took the Fiero GT out on the interstate today, exceeding the speed limit...as I continue to fine tune it, and tweak the radiator, making sure there are no air bubbles...and she's running quite well......as I was returning from Moscow, (TN) saw lots of police on the interstate..both TN state troopers, and the random Homeland security vehicles...out and about...and pulling people over....as it seemed to be an orgy of ticket giving.....lol

Keeping that Fiero out of trouble? Been to any good car shows lately?

My Mom just had some racy stripes painted on her '17 Mustang and we also found a 2004 GT convertible for parades. So she's got 2 Mustangs in the garage!

My '67 has made lots of trips to car shows and a few parades this summer and has been quite reliable. Fall is coming, Dang it! Been having too much fun this summer.

yeah, been to a few Fiero gatherings this summer....always a treat, when a bunch of similar vehicles, or in my case, FIEROS, get together....get to see some other super fine rides, and scope out the parts and after parts market, at these gatherings....and the current discussion is the new C8 corvette, the new mid engine veto...AKA as the 2020, Fiero.....lol

as of late, it's been quite the rainy early spring, here in Memphis...damn, anymore and it'll wash Elvis out of the ground.....lucky I have a garage, so I'm able to pull one of my vehicles inside , to work on em....etc.....but not nearly as nice as being outside for a warm and sunny day...

anyhow, here's another pict of my '87 GT. 5 sp manual. 2.8 V6.....

Very clean car! It's just begging for a 3.4 swap!

The weather is getting better here, nice sunny days this week but still quite cool at nights. 28F last night, but it's supposed to be around 50 this afternoon.

I need to pull the '67 Mustang's power steering system out and replace that wonky old setup with a modern integrated CPP400 steering box.

No rush now, though, with all the "Bug" scare, all the car shows and parades are shut down until further notice.

Guess it leaves plenty of time to work on the car!

Cheers.......ed

yeah, I'm considering swapping out the original 2.8 v6, for something like the 3800.....but my 2.8 is running so good...sorta hate to yank it....but on the other hand, if I can find a decent upgrade, i'll do it....

I own a 88 GT with a 305 V8. That's what makes this car come alive. Get rid of that pathetic v6
'88 was the best year..due to the revamped suspension. My '87 recently had the suspension redone and upgraded.....the V6 isn't bad, certainly better than that
horrible IRON DUKE 4 cyl.....for the era, the 2.8 was good....and yeah, the logical upgrade would be the 3800 SC, the Northstar, or any small block v-8, like the 305, making the Fiero fly like a bat out of hades....

Some sweet rides in this thread.....................Ed that stang you have is the bomb. One of my favorite mustang models.

Never would have thought the Fiero's would have the following they do but they are a really cool concept had they not been made & ruined by Pontiac. I am sure they are very hard to find right now.

I'll have to stick to $800 Troopers for now although I do have a little itch to find a convertible Corvair..........................need to find some ointment before I decide to scratch that itch Lol

hat

yeah, believe it or not, FIEROS have a good size following..and sadly, were ahead of their time. Pontiac didn't kill the Fiero...it was the bean counters at GM, the at ultimately PULLED the plug....years later, They pulled the PLUG on Pontiac. yet kept BUICK....DUH......anyhow, if you look at the new 2021 C-8 corvette....it's basically the 2021 FIERO.......I'm still a big CORVAIR fan..owned several of them...over the years....best of the original run..was 1964. in '65, they went to a new body.....by all means,,,find one...make sure it's a 4 speed....the automatics..were dog sleds......in '65 you had 3 engine choices...the 110 HP, the 140 HP, and the Turbo charged 180 HP......FROM '60-64, 95 HP, 110, and turbo 150 HP.......

Gotta open my mouth and correct you on this:
1960 was 140 CID. Two carbs with one choke built into the air cleaner. Don't remember the horsepower, but want to say 80
1961-1963 was 145 CID. 80 HP standard and 102 HP (Monza) 1962-1963 150 HP turbo charged Spyder
1964 was 164 CID with 95 HP and 110 HP with Spyder 164 CID, but still rated at 150 HP
1965-1966 95 and 110 HP, with Corsa model 140 HP big valve heads and 4 1BBL carbs, and optional 180 HP turbo charged (larger blower IIRC)
1967-1969 Nader got his Pee Pee involved and the 180 HP and Corsa model went away with the 140 HP as a dealer installed option
I had about 25 Corvairs of various models. Somewhere in this other vehicle thread is where I rebuilt the engine in my friends 65 Greenbriar van. Kind of picture heavy.
I may have another one someday, but wife will make a LOT of toys go away first. Dennis
